But this year, they kind of went nuts. And by nuts I mean totally-crazy-with-the-colors kind of nuts. Who has 100 colors (plus white for a total of 101)? Now that’s something I can get behind and completely love.

To show off the amazing amount of colors, we have a handy-dandy color wheel with sample napkins (all 101 of them) in the store. Bring in your favorite plate or table accent and you can perfectly match your table linens. Plus, the color wheel is really cute and fun. It’s totally worth a trip to the store.

Legend has it that Sferra’s owner, Paul Hooker, used to keep inventory in a safe behind his desk. Vendors from boutiques would visit him and ask for items and he’d never fail to produce them. Not only do they take care of their clientele with amazingly crafted bed and table linens, they take care of their boutique vendors (and there’s nearly 600 of us all over the world!). We love them. We know you do, too!

Imagine this: you’re travelling through India and you see local artisans stamping fabric with wooden blocks. The pigments are rich and vibrant and the resulting patterns are unforgettable. Generations of of Indian craftspeople have worked with textiles in this fashion, creating fabrics known for their beauty and timeless appeal.

Paris-based designer Bruno Lamy did just that. He saw the wood-block painting techniques and he brought them back to his studio to create the Provencal-inspired linens known as Couleur Nature. Sold in Europe and North America, this exquisite line has become a must-have for sophisticated tastes with a love of the natural world.

So, the block printing: it’s an intricate and extensive process with over 100 studied movements. The local craftspeople use hand-carved teakwood blocks to carefully apply layers of rich shades of dye reflecting the myriad of colors found in nature. The cloths are washed and dried after each new colour is applied. If it’s raining that day, guess what? The process comes to a halt – the fabric is dried outside. They don’t mess around with a good thing. Once all of the colours have been applied, the fabric is cut and stitched accordingly. Inherent to this artisan process, tones and finish vary, thereby guaranteeing a unique and beautiful collection of linens.

The additions to our fall line are stunning, oui? Come see them in person or online. They’ll take your breath away!

What if I told you that the Jacquards we love so much were actually responsible for the invention of modern-day computer programming? That’s right: your table cloth pretty much changed the world. That laptop you’re reading this blog post on? Thank your linens.

No, really. In 1801, when Joseph Marie Jacquard invented the Jacquard loom, the world saw a precursor to modern-day computer programming. Jacquard’s loom used a punch-card system to control the weave and design in textiles – a punch card which could be changed out to control the design. So although no actual computation was happening back then, Jacquard changed the game with his innovation. And we’re so thankful! The Jacquard loom is responsible for many of the patterns we know and love, including brocade, damask and matelasse. Amazing, to consider, isn’t it?

In their own facility in Gerardmer, France they continue to produce world renowned jacquard patterns in a wide assortment of colors and styles as well as developing state of the art technology for stain resistant cloth. We’re so excited to showcase beautiful new table linens from one of our favorite lines.

Don’t forget, we have designers on hand to help you fashion the perfect table for your upcoming entertaining needs this fall.

We recently touted the new photography of our best-selling placemats by Deborah Rhodes. The little beauties are 15″ and perfectly round – pretty easy to wrangle for the camera. They behaved like nice little children – hanging there quietly. No arguing, no fussing. If they were a child, they’d be the golden one. You know the type.

So, when I say that our napkin collection behaved like a middle child, you’d know what I mean, right? Every step of the way, those napkins made trouble of one kind or another. Hang quietly? I think not! Nothing about the napkins was easy to photograph: they were each like little divas, wanting special attention and praise to hang just so. I kid you not, the napkins were some of my toughest photography clients. But, and this is so like having kids, after the project was over and I had a chance to step back a bit, I could see just how wonderful they truly are – especially as a collection.

Let’s take a step back a bit – When I first began meeting with Keva about showcasing our top-selling items in a fresh, new way, we spent a lot of time with the napkins. I was fascinated to learn that TT&H napkin wall display was custom designed and is like nothing else around. The cabinets pull away from the wall and allow for inventory to be stocked behind the display (genius) and the napkins are hung so their natural drape (and personality) can be seen at eye level. It’s both utilitarian and beautiful: the best of both worlds!

We wanted to replicate that beauty in how we showcase the napkins online as well. It’s not enough to see a folded square online – or worse, a fabric swatch. With napkins, you want to see how they drape. You also want to see how the pattern evolves in a relatively small area (your hand or lap). In my home studio, I photographed the napkins much like they are displayed at the store, hanging from a rod by a clip. The resulting photographs capture much of the same feeling you’d get from a visit to the store. Each napkin’s natural drape and patterns are unique. Just like you and the beautiful table you’ll set with them!

I hope you’ll check them out online and visit us soon. We’re so excited to share them with you!

Forget the history books. Let me break down Bastille Day for you: back in 1789 old King Louie wouldn’t recognize the commoners who had formed to write up a new constitution which basically gave democratic rights to the common folk. Then he went and fired the super-popular Minister of Finance. The Minister, see, was on “the people’s” side. It didn’t go over well.

The king’s week was about to get really, really bad.

Louie must not have known who he was dealing with: angry salespeople and craftsmen will cut you. For real. The Mob went and stole a bunch of rifles: 28,000 or so. Cool, they thought! We have guns! Imagine the haut-cinq!

Alas, things got quiet real quiet real quick when they realized there was no gun powder. Merde.

Well, it just so happened that the joint down the street was known to stock stuff like gunpowder. It was a 14th century fortress, after all. That old place also housed folks known to speak out against the king. What a second, you’re saying! That’s a perfect recipe for a revolution! Indeed, citizen. Indeed.

Imagine the surprise on the faces of the seven prisoners housed within the fortress when the angry mob freed them. There they were, gnawing on their crusty bread, lamenting their miserable existence when the mob threw open the cell doors with the hootin’ and hollerin’ fit for, well, a prison break. “We are here, good sirs, to liberate you from the king’s tyranny.” To which the prisoners responded collectively, “Dudes! Thanks. This place blows!”

Imagine the mob’s shock when they learned not one of the prisoners were held for political reasons. Those bâtardes de la chance.

For better or worse (but mostly worse) that’s how it happened. What’s super odd is that one year later, folks got together for Fête de la Fédération. Basically a giant potluck celebrating the newly-formed “constitutional monarchy,” the Bastille revolutionaries probably didn’t get the evite.

You, however, do have a special invite. We’re celebrating Bastille Day at Table Top & Home all month long. With a $50 purchase of any of our French products, you’ll get a special gift. Whether you are looking for linens from Garnier Thiebaut or Le Jacquard Francais, organic olive oil enriched hand creams and body lotions, or tripled milled perfumed soap, we have some oh la la just for you!

And yes, Bastille Day is actually Thursday. But we’re excited. And we have more to share!

As the season changes, so does our bedding offerings. We love to transition the light bright colors of summer to warmer and deeper colors as well as textures. Gone are the crisp percale sheets; now we are featuring the smooth soft sateen as well as our famous ultra silky micro fiber sheets by SDH and Schlossberg of Switzerland. Our coordinating duvet covers and quilted comforters also take on autumn themes like this elegant yet casual velveteen duvet with grapevine crewel embroidery. The taupe color accented with blue green grape leaves and vines would be perfectly suited for many of our Northwest homes. We have coordinated this beautiful duvet with a lagoon colored cotton sateen stitched quilt by Bagni Volpi Noemi linens (one of our favorites), and layered on a few simple linen decorative striped pillows and a scrumptious cashmere throw for the foot of the bed. Luxury linens are still one of the best investments for you as they will provide years of beauty and comfort for years to come.
