This means we will be highlighting home accessories metal from some of our favorite vendors like Match, Vagabond House, Arte Italica, Michael Aram, Mariposa and Mary Jurek Design.

When our selection of Mary Jurek Designs arrived in our store this season, it was an immediate hit with our interior design specialist, Louanne. Each stainless steel piece is created through the time honored process of hand hammered or “raising” flat stainless steel into shapes. The incredible craft takes hours to produce and the results are breathtaking stainless pieces that are easy to care for and will last a lifetime of use and beauty. This exceptional Mirable beaker’s simple but elegant form makes it a timeless piece for almost any table. Louanne loves this container’s organic style and balance and has one of her friends in mind to receive it this holiday season. Measures 12″ x 9″ and made of 18/8 Stainless Steel. Imported.

Table Top and Home reader, Sara C. from Seattle, wrote in about her hard-to-shop for husband, Jim. With high but unclear standards, Jim is tech junky as well as an avid reader. He loves innovative things and is often at his desk, computing. Jim’s favorite season is summer and Sara is looking for a gift under $100.

Upon hearing Sara’s story, the TT&H team set about to find the perfect gift. We settled on this stunning Michael Aram olive motif cheeseboard on granite. For a guy with high standards, he probably enjoys good food as much as he enjoys innovative tech gadgets. The cheeseboard is a mixed-media embellished serving piece made of nickel-plated bronze on black granite and comes with a matching cheese knife: a perfect set. It measures 12.5″ x 8.5″ and the knife measures 8″ long.

Thanks for playing our little challenge, Sara! Keep your eyes on your mailbox, we’ve got little token headed out to you for your efforts.

Have someone who’s impossible to please? We’re still accepting gift-giving challenges for the holiday season. If we profile your challenge, you’ll get a fun gift for yourself to enjoy. Good deal!

Yeah, me neither.

But then I heard about Eco2Cotton and it got me thinking: what does happen to all those fabric scraps? Turns out, textile scraps often end up in the landfill. And the folks at In2Green wanted to do something about it.

They started reclaiming some of these scraps figured out how to separate colors and reduce yarns to cotton fluff, which is then respun into yarn or thread to make new products! Pretty snazzy, isn’t it? (You can read more about Eco2Cotton process here.)

We’re so excited to offer a beautiful assortment of In2Green’s throws this fall. Come on down and see why: they’re soft, beautiful and they’re an example of good, old-fashioned American pluck!

Happy Friday!

Last night, I had a nightmare. A certain sweet and very lovely linen store turned very scary. Rushed patrons, hungry for Halloween kitsch, were left without centerpieces. I can still hear the blood-curdling screams into the night. The world seemed cold and very, very dark. Gone were the spider bracelets (which double as napkin rings). Nothing remained of the sweet little mummy family. And the witch wine toppers? Only a memory. The horror!!!

Don’t let this nightmare happen to you: our limited stock and great collection of Halloween decor will not last long – especially with a price range of $8.95 – $79.95. The stuff is disappearing before our eyes (and that’s not magic!).

If you’re local to the Seattle area, I hope the past few days have found you out enjoying our amazing September weather. No, I don’t have the secret to world peace. I’m working on it. Until the whole “world peace” thing comes through, you’ll have to settle for the next best thing (to your skin, anyway). It’s Turkish cotton. And it is has changed how I dry off.

Now, why would cotton from Turkey (the Aegean region, specifically) be so wonderful – more wonderful than much-praised Egyptian cotton? Or American cotton? It’s the extra-long fibers of the cotton in that region. Using longer fiber cotton in spinning yarn means fewer joins. See? Fewer joins results in stronger, smoother cotton threads.

Instead of piling the cotton for a fluffy towel, Turkish cotton towels are flat. And while they are soft and absorbent, they don’t take in too much moisture and they dry more quickly. What’s more, it becomes softer, fluffier, and more absorbent with successive washings. We think it provides the perfect balance between absorbency and softness, making it the best cotton for towels.

At TT&H we are now stocking some amazingly wonderful Hammam towel from Scents & Feel – who just won best new bath product at the famous New York International Gift Show. The Turkish bath towel is truly taking the industry by storm, and Scents & Feel are truly the hottest thing on the market. Win!

Speaking of win, how would you like to win some marvelous soaps from Tade? We thought with your new towels you might want some fantastic soap. What a nice pairing! You’ll have to “like” us over on facebook to play. See you soon!

The following is a PFSA (Public Fashion Service Announcement)

[Lights up on a suburban classroom, the time is just before lunch.]

Teacher: Class, open your vocab books to this week’s lesson and read aloud your definitions of our words of the week: upcycle, ecocotton and in2green.

[Silence. Then, one brave student raises her hand.]

Student: I tried to look up these words on dictionary.com and couldn’t find anything, teacher. [Other students nod in agreement.] I asked my dad and he said you [student clears her throat] made them up.

[Silence. Someone drops a pencil.]

Teacher: Made them up? Made them UP? MADE THEM UP? Have you no…no…fashion sense? No fashion sense at all?

Student: Fashion sense? I thought this was a vocabulary lesson.

Teacher: [regains composure] Was that out loud? [shakes her head, as if in daze] Class dismissed.

[Scene]

Don’t let this happen to you.

The folks at Table Top & Home want you to understand current trends in the fashion industry, especially those for whom success means a gentler footprint on the earth. To that end, we are stocking some amazing products from a new company called In2Green: blankets, pillows and throws. You’ll love the fashion, the earth will love how they’re made.

Industrial fashion waste is made into fiber called EcoCotton. Upcycling, the creative use of reclaimed products, is on the cutting edge of both fashion and ecology and TT&H is proud to support In2Green’s fashion innovation. Look for their products on the floor in the fall.

This has been a PFSA. Now back to your regular programming…

Can I just have a moment, please? I’m not being dramatic (who me?), I’m acting in direct proportion to how excited I am about adding Kelly Wearstler‘s bedding to our collection this fall.

Her website biography says she “is a distinguished interior designer and tastemaker best known for her enchanting take on interiors and the luxury lifestyle.” I’m pretty sure they don’t just give out the title of “tastemaker” to anyone. And by anyone, I’m pretty sure the title was created for her. Not surprising one bit: have you seen her design work? (Of course you have, but in case you want to oogle a bit here’s the link.)

Her accolades are almost too numerous to count:

Named one of the style leaders in 2010 by Town & Country; honored as one of House Beautiful‘s best designers; recognized for her interior design work by Bon Appetit; dubbed one of the design world’s top tastemakers by House & Garden; named one of the elite “Design 100″ by Time Style & Design; and designated as one of the top 25 trendsetters of the year by Modern Bride. Named one of the best dressed of the year by Vogue and oft-heralded for her distinctive personal style, she is also a regular contributor on living with style to such fashion bibles as Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and W. She also served as a judge on the Bravo network’s interior design competition series, “Top Design.”

So yeah, we’re pretty thrilled. You will be, too.

The Wall Street Journal just ran an article about Ms. Wearstler. I love how she tells clients who are unsure of color choices to head to their closets: the colors they love are the colors they wear each day. Simple, practical advice for all of us who feel stuck in decorating choices! And while we LOVE the summer weather that’s finally gracing our beautiful Pacific Northwest skies, the fall collection is so exciting I almost wish I could move that calendar a bit quicker…

Reminder: our end-of-summer clearance sale is happening now through August 20. Come on down to TT&H and help us make way for all that fall merchandise on its way. Great deals on fine finds await (say that three times fast, I dare you!).
