Cleaning
As a rule of thumb, Scandia™ items only need cleaning every 2 to 4 years, depending upon the habits of the household. Duvet covers and pillow protectors should always be used and cleaned as often as necessary.

When it comes time for professional cleaning, our Scandia™ in-house experts will inspect the item for wear and then clean it in our facility built exclusively for this type of care. All down products will be washed, except where indicated. Silk will be dry-cleaned.

A: Fill power is a measurement of efficiency; the higher the fill power number, the better the down and the greater the insulating value. The fill power measurement represents the number of cubic inches filled by an ounce of down.

Fill power is directly related to the size of the down cluster. Large down clusters occupy more space than smaller down clusters. The higher the fill power, the larger the clusters, and thus, the more air that is trapped between the clusters.  The trapped air is what gives down its insulating properties.

The size of the bird and the climate in which it lives, determines the size of its down cluster. The colder the climate, the larger the down cluster required to keep the bird warm. For example, it is colder in Canada than it is in Hungary. Therefore, the birds need larger down clusters in Canada to stay warm.

Even though our Pacific northwest days are slowing getting longer again, we’ve got three months of winter ahead. Upon hearing Sara’s story, the TT&H team set about to find the perfect gift. We settled on this stunning Michael Aram olive motif cheeseboard on granite. For a guy with high standards, he probably enjoys good food as much as he enjoys innovative tech gadgets. The cheeseboard is a mixed-media embellished serving piece made of nickel-plated bronze on black granite and comes with a matching cheese knife: a perfect set.
